An Die Musik
Gallery Opens Art Exhibition In Festival Of Maps

BALTIMORE  -   An exhibition featuring maps by cartographer Ferdinand von Stuelpnagel and new paintings by artist Daniel Stuelpnagel will open at An Die Musik Gallery on May 1, 2008, in conjunction with the Baltimore Festival Of Maps.

This exhibition, curated by and including the map-related works of artist Daniel Stuelpnagel, displays original paintings as well as antique map prints originally drafted by the 19th-century German cartographer Ferdinand von Stuelpnagel
(1786 - 1865), a distant relative of the present-day artist.

The exhibition at An Die Musik, entitled EXPLORATORY SEARCHERY, will run from May 1 through May 25, 2008, one of many events in a three-month series sponsored by the Walters Art Gallery Museum.  The festival’s web site is www.baltimorefestivalofmaps.com, involving more than 20 area cultural organizations, and running from March 16 through June 8, 2008.

An Die Musik, located at 409 North Charles Street in Baltimore, is a unique venue featuring six hundred square feet of gallery space, a music store with a diverse selection of classical and jazz recordings, and a performance space hosting musical events.  Concert schedule and additional information is available at www.andiemusiklive.com

Repeatedly returning to studios in Baltimore and Washington, DC, after his travels to diverse points of interest from Albuquerque to Zurich, Daniel Stuelpnagel has charted his experience through landscapes, geometric abstractions and mixed media maps on paper and canvas.  In addition to publishing a ten-year chronicle of his art career (online at www.409A.com), the artist has curated this assemblage of images that transcend space and time.

Related events at An Die Musik include an opening reception on Thursday, May 1, 2008, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm; an exhibition closing reception on Sunday, May 25, 2008, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm; and a series of artist talks and studio events to be announced on the artist’s web site www.409A.com

Art works by Daniel Stuelpnagel include variations on the themes of maps, map fragments and the compass rose motif, as well as abstract landscapes and geometric abstractions, related to his recently published chronicle of ten years of art and travel, entitled Exploratory Searchery.  The artist occupies studio space at LOAD OF FUN Studios, located at 120 West North Avenue in Baltimore’s Station North Arts & Entertainment District.

Please join us on May 1, 2008 at An Die Musik, the well-known source for jazz and classical recordings, and the home of musical artists in residence the Monument Piano Trio, featuring members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  An Die Musik has consistently been voted Baltimore’s Best Jazz Space by Baltimore Magazine and City Paper for their upstairs concert venue, featuring a full calendar of eclectic musical events by artists from around the world (www.andiemusiklive.com)
